About Us
Spectrum Visual Network Solutions (Pty) Ltd (Spectrum VNS) is South Africa's foremost digital media solution provider. Specializing in the distribution and exhibition of digital media content, and with a strong foothold in the cinema environment, Spectrum VNS makes use of custom-designed software and hardware to provide solutions molded for specific environments.
Spectrum Visual Networks (SVN), founded in 2001, were responsible for the rollout of the world’s first digital cinema advertising network on behalf of CineMark, South Africa’s leading cinema-advertising media owner. The overwhelming success of the initial six-month pilot project, led to the rollout of 57 digital cinemas countrywide, with an additional 20 cinemas currently nearing completion.
The company, which was primarily formed to supply, install and service electronic advertising screens, utilised their pool of in-house skills to develop Móbila®, a custom designed collection of software applications and hardware components that controls digital media distribution and exhibition. SVN have since grown into South Africa’s leading expert on digital media solutions especially within the cinema environment.
SVN provides digital media solutions to meet the client’s specific business requirements. Móbila®, SVN’s digital media solution, can be deployed through a wide range of channels including cinema advertising, information kiosks, shopping malls, fitness, health and leisure centres, digital displays on large LCD screens in stadiums, theatres and nightclubs and plasma screens at locations such as airport lounges, taxi ranks and garage forecourts or live nationwide multicasts in addition to corporate information networks.
SVN have utilised their knowledge of the cinema industry to digitise full-length feature films, due to their efforts, South Africa has been recognised as the first country to digitise film festivals. In 2003, Screendigest, the world’s leading authority on digital cinema, rewarded South Africa (via SVN), jointly with India, as the digital cinema country of the year.
SVN have extended their services to include all forms of moving digital media. Due to the flexibility of their technology it has been adapted to provide solutions for many different environments. From corporate media networks to televised game shows, product launches, events and marketing opportunities such as LiveExperience.
SVN’s LiveExperience technology utilises digital cellular technology, GPRS, email, satellite transmission and digital cinema technology. A product representative will take a photo of an entrant in the cinema foyer and as the advertising reel starts to run the winners face will appear on the screen. Due to the success of the campaign, Yellow Crossing, the agency responsible for conceptualising the idea, was a finalist in the 2005 Roger Garlick awards, which recognises innovative media ideas. |
